  • Barton Civic Society meets on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30pm in the Shingles Room, of the village hall. There is an annual fee, currently £20, but people are welcome to go along and give it a try first.

Barton badminton club:

  • Welcome people of all ages.
  • Players that are more serious may be given the opportunity to play in the club’s teams. They compete in the East Staffordshire Badminton League in both league division and cup matches, in all double’s disciplines, ladies, men’s and mixed teams.
  • The season starts at the beginning of September at both the John Taylor High School & De Ferrers Academy Trent Campus.
  • The club meet on Monday evenings at De Ferrers and on Friday evenings at John Taylor High School where they have 4 courts.
  • Junior coaching – 6.30pm to 7.30pm on Fridays, in term time at John Taylor.

Burton Leander Rowing Club – 37-45 Stapenhill Rd, Burton-on-Trent, DE15 9AE

They are a Community Amateur Sports Club with open membership for all that are keen to enjoy the experience of the Olympic sport of rowing.
They have coached sessions from age 11, with no upper age limit. The club welcomes rowers and beginners, both adults and juniors.

Burton Tennis and Squash Club – Ashby Road, Buton on Trent, DE15 0LQ

This private club, owned by the membership and run by an elected committee. New members are welcome. The sports club operates internal ladder leagues and knockout tournaments throughout the year and also enters numerous teams into various county leagues. Coaching is also available for both adults and children.

Membership will allow you to play all racket sports offered at the club which include tennis, squash, racket ball and table tennis.

  • The library is autism friendly and they have a sunflower hour Thursdays 4pm-5pm where the lighting will be dimmed for a calmer atmosphere.
  • Baby Bounce and Rhyme – Tuesdays 10:15am-10:45am term time only (ages birth – 3 years (5 years if SEND) with a parent or carer.
  • Work club – Tuesdays 9:30-11:30am – For any adult needing help with job searching, CVs or application forms. The session is free, but booking is required.
  • IT Buddies – Tuesdays AM and Fridays PM – Helpful volunteers will provide support with basic IT queries. Free but need to book by contacting the library
  • Places of Welcome – Tuesdays 2pm-4pm – A place to go for a friendly face, a cup of tea and a conversation if and when you need it.
  • Saturday Club – Saturdays 11am-12 noon. For Lego and games.
  • Jigsaw swap – Mondays 10am-12pm – Bring along your jigsaws to swap with other puzzle enthusiasts.
  • Family history drop -in – Tuesdays 1pm-4pm – Pop in for some free advice about your family history research.
  • Shared reading group – Every other Wednesday from 11am – Bring along a favourite poem or a passage from a book to share with the group

Gresley Church Community Centre – Church Street, Church Gresley, DE11 9NR

  • The Ark – Thursday’s 1pm and 3pm. The group is aimed at people who live alone or are lonely and involves conversation, laughter, singing, bingo and above all mutual support and friendship. As well as the weekly meetings, the group also have outings to Dobbies Garden centre for lunch and shopping, twice a year, Christmas lunch at lakeside, summer outing to a Derbyshire village or shopping centre and Afternoon Tea at Newton Regis Garden Centre.
  • Sewing and craft group – Wednesdays at 1pm. The group is for anyone wanting to learn or practice things such as sewing, crafting, knitting, embroidery, drawing or painting.
  • Games night – 4th Sunday of each month 7pm-9:30pm. Take part in a variety of boardgames, roleplay and video games, or bring something of your own to share.
  • Drop-in – Fridays 9am in term-time. This is mainly for pre-school children and their parents / carers / grandparents etc. and provide a safe and welcoming environment for people to meet and chat over a coffee while the children play.

There are different activities out most weeks and there is a soft play corner for the very young.  The mornings activities finish at 10.45 am when there is all action nursery rhyme time.

  • Home groups meet weekly in several host homes throughout the area. They provide a very relaxed atmosphere in which faith can be explored openly, honestly and prayerfully

Crown Kickboxing, Swadlincote – 13 West St, Swadlincote DE11 9DG

  • Martial Monkeys – ages 3-4 years. Assists younger children with balance, coordination, and attention span.
  • Diddie Warriors – ages 5-7 years. This class helps children gain confidence, co-ordination skills and discipline.
  • Little warriors – ages 8-12 years. This helps with fitness, gain confidence, improve co-ordination and discipline.
  • Adults – Teens and adult class is for ages 13 years and over. This class is perfect for people that want to improve fitness, self-defence and confidence.
  • Over 35’s. This class is for all abilities, from beginners to the more advance and id open to both men and women.
  • Ladies only. Aimed at ladies aged 13 years and over of all abilities. The class aims to improve fitness levels, co-ordination and confidence.

East Staffordshire Family Hub – Waterloo Street Burton on Trent DE14 2NJ

Family Hubs bring everything together in one place within a safe and welcoming space, supporting families to enable their children and young people to reach their full potential. Family Hubs can be accessed through physical buildings (previously known as Children’s Centres), online and through community venues.

The East Staffordshire Family Hub is based in Burton and runs classes such as:

  • Messy Church – Second Saturday of every month, 4pm-6pm. Following a core biblical theme for each session, there are a variety of crafts in the Community Centre, often including a food creation of some sort, which are carried out during the first hour. Then the group all sit down together for a home-cooked meal. The session is aimed at all ages.

Lullington Park Cricket Club – 2 Coalville Cl, Seales Ward DE12 8EH

The club currently have six junior teams (competing in various age groups in the South Derbyshire league) with four senior teams, three playing in the Derbyshire County league on Saturdays and one on Sundays in the Lichfield league.  They also have a women’s softball team competing in festivals around the county, and run a fun, social “pub-league” on selected Friday evenings.

The club pride themselves in being a child and family friendly club, illustrated by our ECB Clubmark status and Safe Hands management, with a modern purpose-built clubhouse serving our two grounds in the picturesque setting of Lullington Park.

During the season, mid-April through mid-September, they hold junior practice sessions for five-year-olds through to 15 years with our volunteers coaches working to help boys and girls develop their skills and to prepare them for graduation into Senior cricket at weekends.  Senior practice sessions are held on Wednesday evenings.

Trefoil Guild – Various locations in the local area.

Trefoil Guild is for everyone aged 18 and over. They offer a place to find friendship, to get involved in new challenges, or get active in your community. There is a network of members across the UK. Not all of Trefoil Guilds meet in person every month. Some are online only, some are hybrid, some are made up of members who live in different parts of the UK, and there are also lots of specialist interest groups that you could join alongside your Trefoil.  We have several online only Trefoil Guilds, including our Internet Trefoil Guild run via a closed Facebook page.

Walton on Trent Cricket Club – Station Lane, Walton on Trent, Swadlincote, DE12 8NA

  • The club have two adult senior teams who play on Saturday in the Derbyshire County Cricket League and an adult senior team who play on a Sunday in the Lichfield League.
  • They have U13, U15, U17, All Stars and Incrediball teams for juniors, and ladies who play at local softball festivals whilst the club build up to having a full ladies and girls league teams.
  • The U13 – 17’s and ladies train on Tuesday nights, run by the age group coaches and a Derbyshire coach, the adult men train on Thursday nights, Incrediball train on Wednesday nights and All Stars on Saturday morning.
  • The club also offer social membership of the club, and they live stream adult matches on You Tube so that members can watch home matches wherever they are.

Washlands Women Runners – Burton on Trent

The group welcomes women who want to improve their fitness and make new friends, whether you are new to running or a seasoned runner.

They meet every Wednesday in the Reception of the Meadowside Leisure Centre. Arrive for 19:15pm and we set off at 19.30pm.

The coaches offer a 2-mile, 4 miles, and a 6-mile route each week. There are runners of all speeds in each group and you can join whichever distance you are feeling that week.
